FENCES AND GATES

A.G. Welding fabricates and installs custom and pre-manufactured metal fences and gates. We also supply and install chain-link, wood and vinyl fences and gates. Typical fences and gates are 4 to 8 feet high.

Local municipalities or homeowners’ associations (HOA’s) may have limits on fence and gate heights.  Fences are used to mark property or other boundaries, for safety such as around swimming pools, for security, or simply for their aesthetic beauty.

Some fence options are explained below. Please contact A.G. Welding for further in-depth discussion of these topics or for a free estimate for your project.

METAL FENCES AND GATES

Most commonly the metal fences and gates are fabricated with iron or aluminum.  Custom fence designs range from basic fence panels consisting of a top and bottom rail and pickets to very ornate fence panels that add finials, rings, metal castings, forged scrolls or other forgings such as leaves and flowers.

We fabricate custom metal walk gates and drive gates.  Sometimes customers select a simple fence design and pair it with an ornate gate design.  Walk gates hardware typically includes hinges, lock receiver, lock boxes, deadbolt locks and passage levers.  Walk gates for swimming pools may also have expanded metal, springs, and safety latches.

Drive gates can either swing or slide open.  Designs can have a straight top or an arched top.  There are also options of the arch type, such as gradual, steep or what is sometimes referred to as a “mustache arch”.   We have fabricated drive gates for residential driveways, for gated residential communities, and multifamily apartments, and for large commercial facilities.

We also supply and install prefabricated metal fences.  Prefabricated fence panels have some advantages and disadvantages when compared to custom fences.   Some advantages include speed of obtaining fence panels because the fabrication time is eliminated and the good quality finish on the fence panels.  Iron fence panels are typically galvanized, and powder coated, and aluminum fence panels are powder coated.   The primary disadvantage of the prefabricated fence panels is the limit in the design choices.  The gate design choices are even more limited.

CHAIN-LINK FENCES AND GATES

Most commonly chain-link fence fabric is 9 gauge thick, but thinner or heavier chain-link fabric is available.  Chain-link fence options include adding barbed wire at the top for additional security or adding vinyl slats for added privacy.

WOOD FENCES AND GATES

In the greater Houston area, most wood fences and gates are treated pine posts and treated pine rails. The wood pickets can be treated pine or cedar.  The cedar pickets are naturally resistant to insects, and they offer more durability and longevity than pine pickets, but pine pickets are less costly.  Wood fence upgrades include adding a base board and cap rail.
